It is with great sadness that I write about the passing of our President, John Nicholls. John passed away on Thursday 7th November after a brave fight, which he never complained about and took everything in his stride.
John and Lesley joined the AAOCC back in 1990 and have always been the heart and soul of our rally gatherings. I think everyone has stories that they can tell about the mischief they both got up to! Including the ‘abduction’ of Gnomes that kindly sent their owners a postcard as they were on their adventures (we were caught up in this fiasco when we were very new to the club, being asked to post cards on a rally that the Nicholls were not attending). Driving on to a muddy rally field (after being told not to) and getting stuck, Calvin questioning why John's wheels were still turning and he was out of the car!
Back in 2010 the committee asked John to become President of our club. With great pride John accepted the role and Lesley asked me if that meant she was the First Lady - to which I replied ... of course!
In 2015, sadly, Lesley passed away. John carried on their love of caravanning and adjusted to caravanning on his own with the support of his friends - both old and new.
John was a fabulous President, always giving his opinion and advice like a wise owl. The last couple of years John also took the Equipment role under his wing and did a wonderful job finding where everything was!
John will be greatly missed by all those he has caravanned with over the years. He meant so much to a great number of people.
The AAOCC send all their thoughts and love to Mark, Peter, Andrew and the rest of the family.
Rest In Peace John and thank you for your friendship and the memories.
